"No children should suffer from vaccine-preventable disease"
In celebration of World Polio Day (October 24, 2020) D3770 led by Gov. Gil Dindo Berino, Rotarians across district gathered for one great cause - to eradicate and promote vaccination to prevent polio from spreading.
Polio is a contagious disease caused by PolioVirus that can spread from person to person. PolioVirus causes nerve injury leading to paralysis, difficulty in breathing and death. Vaccine to prevent PolioVirus has been made and readily available to hospitals and health centers but unfortunately, many families from different places around the world more specifically in the Philippines are not aware of this privileges. This can cause Awareness and education about the disease can prevent a child from the contractures of polio. This is the main reason why Rotary International begin its cause to #EndPolioNow and fight to eradicate and promote awareness to people across globe.
Rotary International started the battle against polio with a multi-year project to immune 6 million children in the Philippines. Since 1998 up to the present time Rotary International from all-over the world are actively engaged in eradicating polio through vaccination. This year holding the same virtue, that no children should suffer from this disease; RI District 3770, despite restrictions due to pandemic continued to be People of Action and celebrated the World Polio Day through different service programs.
Highlighting the district's activities for this years World Polio Day, Rotary Club of San Jose Del Monte had a #EndPolioNow: Golf Tournament, while Rotary Club of San Jose Del Monte Central celebrated the day by having a #EndPolioNow: FunShoot and Rotary Club of Cabanatuan North promoted the cause through a #EndPolioNow: Blood Letting Project. Aside from these clubs more than 50% of the clubs in the district joined & gathered to raise awareness and to celebrated the World Polio Day event.
As part of the World Polio Day and #EndPolioNow campaign of the Rotary International welcomed their new ambassador; TV Personality, Actress, Host and a Global brand ambassador, Maine Mendoza. Having an influencer such as Ms. Maine will help the Rotary International to promote and reach the masses through her talents and influence.
The celebration became more meaningful and significant knowing that the Service Projects done by the Rotary Clubs will help many- especially children and their families in the country.
